The Sydney Opera House, Australia

When Jørn Utzon won the competition for a new Opera House - Concert Hall in Sydney in 1956 Jordan Akustik was part of the winning team. Through the years of design to follow our model research (1:10 scale) showed the impossibility in combining Opera and Concert hall acoustics within the same auditorium, when excellency was called for in both cases.

The Australian architects finishing the project were allowed a much simpler task, to create the best possible opera under the small shell system and an excellent concert hall housing 2800 persons under the main shell system. The acoustic result as it was presented at the inauguration in 1973 is outstanding for the Concert Hall (with an RT and EDT at 2.1 sec.) and very favourably for the Opera Theatre (with an RT and EDT at 1.3 sec.)
